Data Protection Champions Program

Main content start

The Data Protection Champions (DPC) Program is a Stanford University Privacy Office (UPO) initiative aimed at building strong communication pathways between the UPO and schools and units. Our mission is to empower the community to protect personal data effectively and foster a culture of privacy and security.

  Who are Data Protection Champions?

Data Protection Champions (DPCs) are local leaders committed to promoting privacy and IT security best practices within their respective schools and units. As key advocates for data protection, DPCs play an essential role in enhancing trust, accountability, and awareness throughout Stanford. Acting as liaisons supporting data protection, DPCs:

  • Raise awareness around data protection through local initiatives
  • Provide or facilitate prompt responses to privacy and security questions, concerns, and issues
  • Support the data risk assessment (DRA) process, improving response times
  • Facilitate communication with the UPO and Information Security Office (ISO)
  • Promote community-building and knowledge-sharing on critical privacy topics

  Engaging Your Champions

Each school and unit at Stanford has a designated DPC to assist with privacy and security-related concerns. Find your local DPC below and connect with them for guidance on data protection issues.
